Time to get a closer look at the volcano and explore the extensive lava field. A handful of locals have set up home right beside the old lava flow - a decision that could one day end in disaster since this is still an active volcano!

A nice sunny morning. perfect for that return trip to Batur and the volcano. Here, the views over the area from a village situated right on the caldera rim. A really good spot for a coffee break and recovery time from that bone shaking scooter ride.

Leaving the White Sand Beach, a detour down one of the small lanes reveals yet more rice paddies but still a picturesque scene sandwiched between the coast and mountains. One look at the line of tourist coaches and seeing those makeshift booths of tourist tack both outside and inside the village complex is enough for me to abort the visit to this place purported to be a  'Natural Clan Village Experience' - thanks,but no thanks!
