To see a more traditional style of living at an ultra slow pace, then visitors should cross the Sarawak River and leave behind those concrete blocks and towers of glass only to be replaced with simple dwellings of timber construction. A small village on the north Sarawak River bank, easily accessible by taking a Sampan - a little wooden boat in traditional Malay style, in itself an experience to behold.
Very good photos and report about live in Borneo away from the modern city. We had a similar experience driving from Kota Kinabalu to the Tip of Borneo, Kudat Kota Kinabalu, Sabah State in April 2013.

Thanks. The Kudat trip is something I didn't get around to taking so, maybe next time.
