Seamless Integration, Jurong, Singapore, April 21st 2013

A Sramble, but seamless integration...

A mad scramble down to the bus platforms, everyone eager to make their bus, so it seems but actually it wouldn't really matter if the bus was missed since they are coming along here as though on a conveyer belt. Suddenly hundreds of local Malaysians descend upon the bus stands and are made to form an orderly queue - defiantly no queue jumping here. One bus fills up, along comes the next right behind, thankfully. And behind that, several more buses, coaches and causeway links waiting to pass through the checkpoint and grab some passengers.

Back on bus 170 then heading away from Woodlands, into Singapore and the nearest Mass Rapid Transport Station. About 15 minutes and the bus pulls into Kranji MRT and again it seems to be a mad rush out and up as the stations around here are elevated. Looks like a brand new, recently built place, well, it wasn't here in 1988 I know that much!

Small change is needed for the ticket machine and can be got from the service counter. It's all computerised - a map digital map zooms in on the picked destination with a journey price. $2.10 SGD, about £1.05 for the 35 minute ride through Singapore's northern townships to Boon Lay, where tourists can connect with a local bus direct to Jurong Bird Park. Buses are frequent, about every 20 minutes and pretty cheap too - about 50p to complete the journey to Jurong. In total, from Kotoraya in Johor to Jurong in Singapore, I would allow about 90 minutes, and a bottle of water - seamless integration of a well travelled route it seems!
