The Wellington Album - Makara Beach and hills, April 2013

Family Day Out.

Around a dozen wood slatted properties, a couple of farms and a cafe, all nestled at the base of some pretty big hills around here, and then the sea halts any further progress. A picturesque beach cove scene although today there is a howling gale - hold on to your hats people. Makara is only accessible by car, about 30 minutes from Wellington Centre, through the suburb of Karori and out into the hills. The car, being driven by Cousin Alayne and riding in the back her daughter Ashley, and its not a good place to breakdown!

Plenty of mountain bikers to avoid - shouldn't they be in the mountains. Looks like quite a recreational area and access to the hill tops can be gained by driving up - thankfully.

Makara, the hills are alive....
