A Town Called Negombo
A couple of hours beach time before getting the bus back into the town, primarily for something to eat, then walk back via the back water where I've seen a few boats and fishing smacks moored up. Should make a nice set of photos in the setting sun.
A handful of tourists in town, obviously with the same idea - to avoid the blatant overpricing at those beach front restaurants and cafes. a good nosh- up of fried rice tonight, 75p and 20p for a drink, that's pretty good value, even for a local. Just to compare, rice and curry along the beach front costs about £2.50-£3 excluding drinks.
A hike back to the guesthouse again, this time via the little backwater and harbour as the sun starts to set. Boat rides from here, but I suspect somewhat pricey being aimed at tourists. So with camera in hand a few minutes spent capturing the picturesque settings provided by the waters and lush vegetation as backdrops for those fishing canoes, at the same time trying to omit the garbage - Yes, plenty of garbage around here to. Through a residential street here should save a few minutes and given my generally good sense of direction I would estimate to end up on Sea Street. From then on its just plain sailing towards 103 Lewis Street.
So, that's Negombo, a colourful and vibrant little town with good eating opportunities for those looking to escape blatant overpricing in those Western contrived establishments on Lewis Place. Transport links are pretty good and frequent although it's just a 30 minute pleasant enough hike from Lewis Place to the centre. Strewn garbage is of course a fact of life in developing countries, but until today Sri Lanka has been relatively clean.
