Negombo Two, February 2nd 2013

Negombo Beach..

Bus 905 is at the stand waiting. Lewis place about 10p and 10 minutes away, could probably walk from here, but I'm just too lazy after that 4 hour bus ride.
Sea Street turns into Lewis place - number 103 on the left side is the target, actually the stop i make is someway before that, not quite able to remember exactly where I should be. A short hike though, and 103. It's the house that corners the lane next to Ice Bear Giest house and is the starting point in looking for a place to stay - it was where I stayed last time. Staying here this time too since there is room. Same price, about £6.50 and no tax.

Bags dumped, straight onto the beach and a cool, pretty strong breeze to cool down a weary traveller  Despite it being Saturday, the place is quiet. Just a sprinkling of locals, a handful of Europeans and some domestic pets. A quick few snaps before settling down to rest a bit at the Star Light cafe. Oh, and time to grab some of their fruit pancakes before sunset.

A sunset worthy of a place in the photo album tonight as the beach and shoreline are drenched in golden sunlight, deepening by the minute. Couples in the sand watching, local boys playing cricket, some playing football as the air cools significantly.

A night walk along the main street, the place where about 20 restaurants are located opposite the hotels and guest houses that line the beach. The majority are Western contrived and as might be anticipated, very pricey. Even local dishes are 3 or 4 times  more expensive than normal hence every restaurant is empty! Perhaps tourists are eating in there hotels or going into the town, where I'm sure a decent nosh-up can be found at a fraction of the prices here!
